The annual tournament, hosted by the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk wrestling team, is named for an RCS wrestling booster who was 29 when he died of cystic fibrosis in 2010. Wrestlers from 15 schools competed.The Dutchmen had a full team and finished second overall with 186.5 points, only a half-point behind Arlington of Section 1. The Bulldogs brought just three wrestlers to the tournament — a fourth team member was out sick — and so finished 17th with 28 points.

Two big winners in the Jamie Mormile Invitational on Saturday were Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s Tyler Goodemote who beat Colby Lord of Coxsackie-Athens by pin in 51 seconds in the second round of the 170-pound weight class,

Guilderland’s Tyler Grupe who dominated his second-round match in the 195-pound weight class against Leon Poulin of Cohoes. Grupe won, 7 to 1, then went on to win his weight class.

Human pretzel: Guilderland’s Marcus Berroa bends his opponent, Josh Schmoyer of Chester, like a pretzel in his second-round match in the 126-pound weight class. Berroa pinned Schmoyer in 25 seconds and finished second overall.

Fighting hard: Guilderland’s Sam Hopson looks at the referee while attempting to pin his opponent, Dylan Bussing of Taconic Hills, in the first round of the 220-pound weight class. Hopson pinned Bussing in 1:49 and finished in fourth place.

Fast worker: Guilderland’s Cameron Durant made quick work of his second-round opponent in the 170-pound weight class, Cole Greco of Chester, winning by pin in 32 seconds. Durant and Goodemote met up in the finals where Goodemote won by pin in 4:18.

Fighting to stay off the mat, Guilderland’s Kelson McBride twists his body against Arlington’s Patrick Rutbell to make sure he keeps his shoulders from touching the mat in the first period in the 120-pound weight class competition at the Jamie Mormile Invitational on Saturday. McBride lost by pin in 4:31 and didn’t place in the invitational.

I’m ready: Guilderland’s Sean Collins is ready for the referee’s whistle to start the second period of Collin’s first-round match against Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk’s Carvis McCutcheon in the 160-pound weight class. Collins won by major decision with a score of 15 to 3 and finished third in the invitational.
