Colorful costumes and traditional dance were part of the Diwali celebration on Nov. 3 as Indian Americans gathered at the Guilderland YMCA. The autumn festival of lights symbolizes the victory of good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

Developers treat town plans as obstacles. Town boards must treat them as contracts.

GUILDERLAND — The town is ending its relationship with Mallozzi’s, the long-time food-and-beverage vendor at the town-owned Western Turnpike Golf Course.

Guilderland Supervisor Peter Barber told the town board on Nov. 8 that the goal is to have a new vendor in place by the start of the next golf season.

GUILDERLAND — The citizens’ group Historic Altamont Inc. wrote a letter this week to Guilderland Supervisor Peter Barber and Altamont Mayor Kerry Dineen advising them that it would no longer seek ownership of the historic Doctor Crounse House, at the gateway to the village.

Enterprise Consulting Services is once again looking to install a cell tower in Altamont. In 2013, the company had the same proposal for the same for the same site, on Agawam Lane.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland school board is considering its next steps, following a failed capital-construction project referendum on Oct. 16.

GUILDERLAND — Teacher Colleen Ryan’s wife, Barbara Martucci, got the news that Ryan would be receiving a new set of lungs early on the morning of the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary, Nov. 13.

Just before midnight that same day, the transplant surgery had been completed.

The district’s other schools have not been tested in a decade.

ALTAMONT — Stewart’s Shops is again proposing an expansion that would require a zoning change, a measure that the village board rejected in a split vote three years ago.
