Community Caregivers serves individuals who need help to stay independent at home and connected to their communities.

On Sunday morning, Guilderland’s top indoor track athletes looked to punch their tickets to the state competition on Staten Island this Saturday. Isabella Bruno, Jordon Kimbrough, and Nick Soldevere qualified.

Last Thursday, the Guilderland Dutchmen girls' basketball opened up in the quarterfinals in the class AA sectional playoffs at Shenendehowa High School against Colonie. The Dutch fell 59-to-53.

Their cheers were loud during Saturday’s competition at Colonie High. The Dutch had won its fourth straight Section 2 title. The champions had a score of 86.05 out of 100 points. The team is coached by Jessalynn Crusado.

Catherine A. Maikoff

ALTAMONT — Catherine A. Maikoff, who grew up in the family florist business and loved flowers all her life, died peacefully at home on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019. She was 92.

After two months of public comment, the Altamont Planning Board this week closed the hearing it had opened on Dec. 17, 2018, for a proposed cell tower on Agawam Lane and voted to allow the tower to be built.

Six cases of Legionnaires’ disease were linked to the building about seven years ago, when it was a Best Western Sovereign Hotel, but the assisted-living facility that has since converted the hotel undertook an “extensive renovation that replaced every single fixture in the building, faucets as well as the hot-water heater” and all the piping, according to Paul Belitsis, Promenade Senior Living’s chief financial officer and chief operating officer.

Two Democrats — Steven D. Wickham and Dustin M. Reidy — will vie in a June primary to get their party’s backing to represent Guilderland’s District 30 in the Albany County Legislature.

GUILDERLAND — Jean Cataldo is set to retire at the end of this year, after 20 years of working for the town as, first, receiver of taxes, and then town clerk.

She will fill out her term, but she will not run for re-election in November, said Jacob Crawford, chairman of the Guilderland Democratic Committee, this week.
