Turf fever leads school board to urge larger capital project

The original plan, presented July 1, had been modified to include roughly $770,000 from federal pandemic allocations. This would reduce the annual tax increase from the original $64 for the median $299,000 house in Guilderland to $52. “I think we should ask for more in the capital project …,” said school board member Rebecca Butterfield; several board members agreed.

A crew from SMS Rail Lines, based in Bridgeport, New Jersey, woke at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning to travel to Altamont to replace a rail that had broken on the track crossing Main Street. The paving was done by Jake's, located on Ostrander Road in town. The project, which slowed traffic to one lane being used at a time on the two-lane Route 146, was completed by Tuesday afternoon.
