Sex offender joins others at old motel on Route 20
GUILDERLAND — On Friday, the Guilderland school superintendent emailed a notice to families that a sex offender has moved into the district.
John E. McIntyre lives at 2360 Western Ave., according to the state’s sex-offender registry, which describes him as a white man with blond hair and blue eyes, weighing 212 pounds and standing 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He is 34.
He was convicted on Nov. 29, 2006 of third-degree rape of a 14-year-old female victim who was known to him. McIntyre did not use force and did not use a weapon on Oct. 5, 2018 when he committed the crime; he did use a computer, the registry says.
He was arrested by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office and convicted on March 15, 2019. He was sentenced to three years in state prison.
McIntyre is designated as a Level 3 offender, the worst of three categories, which means he has to register for the rest of his life, reporting where he lives.
Two other sex offenders are listed on the registry as living in apartments at that same Guilderland address, 2360 Western Avenue, an old motel:
— Wyatt Bleau, a Level 2 offender, age 27, was convicted in 2018 for a 2017 rape involving two female victims known to him, ages 19 and 23, where a computer was used and choking was involved. He was sentenced to 18 months in state prison; and
— George Zirpoli, a Level 2 sex offender, age 74, was convicted in 2000 for sexual abuse in 1999 of two females aged 9 and 12. He was sentenced to 18 months of probation.
“Please understand that this individual is not wanted by the police,” wrote Superintendent Marie Wiles in the school notice about McIntyre. “However, as a result of the Sex Offender Registration Act, the police notification of schools and neighbors in our community is intended to keep the public better informed as a precautionary safety measure.”
She also wrote, “Any time we receive this information regarding a level 3 sex offender, it will be circulated to all employees including principals, teachers, teaching assistants, monitors who issue visitors’ passes, bus drivers, custodians, playground monitors, and coaches. Our employees have been directed to notify their building principal or supervisor if they observe any suspicious person(s) in an area where children congregate.”
