ALTAMONT — Dorothy H. Armstrong, an artist, teacher, and devoted wife and mother, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. She was 92.

Mrs. Armstrong was a “powerful woman whose strength derived from her faith, family, and ability to see and bring out the good in people she encountered,” her family wrote in a tribute.

ALTAMONT — Zachary Connolly, 16, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on April 30.

“He’s very driven and motivated,” said his mother, Megan Connolly.

Zachary Connolly created a “reflecting garden” behind St. John’s Lutheran Church in Altamont.

The 911 call in a recent domestic violence incident that led to a felony strangulation charge for a Guilderland resident  was made by the accused himself, said Trooper Mark Cepiel, public information officer with the New York State Police.

The fiancée of a young man killed in a wood chipper says he was a one-day laborer, hired to fill in when a tree company was short-handed. 

The newest building is the pool house at Tawasentha Park, which is scheduled for completion in mid-June. The final bid estimate for the construction of the building — which will include locker rooms and a concession stand — is $777,800, or three-quarters of a million dollars. 

The new director of the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce has experience developing the business of both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. 

Dr. Jane DeRook, now 90, is saddened by the way the town of Guilderland cut ties with her 45-year volunteer labor of love, the Guilderland Ballet.
