An anonymous flyer was distributed in the days before the October 2018 vote on a proposed school capital project, and the project was defeated by 58 votes. Now a very similar flyer is urging voters to defeat the school and library propositions on Tuesday, May 21.

GUILDERLAND — Bernice Carol (née Abare) Hauser of Guilderland, a devoted mother who was also devoted to her country, went to clown school so she could entertain veterans.

She died peacefully Saturday, May 18, 2019 at her residence with her family by her side following a short illness. She was 82.

GUILDERLAND —  On Friday, May 17, a mother shot her 5-year-old daughter before shooting herself at 169 Schoolhouse Road, according to a Saturday-afternoon release from Guilderland Police.

Caitlin Melville, 27, the mother, lived at that address with her daughter, who had been a kindergartner at Westmere Elementary School.

A request for an interpretation as to what the proposed Stewart’s project on Altamont Boulevard should be designated as — a convenience store or a gasoline service station — was left unanswered by the Altamont Zoning Board at its monthly meeting due to an out-of-left-field request made by Stewart’s.  

About 85 people, nearly all from the state of Chuuk in Micronesia, have gathered as they do every Sunday afternoon at the Christ Lutheran Church on Western Avenue for a service in their native Austronesian language of Chuukese.

The building will be transferred to the Atlantic District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, which will decide what to do with it long-term.

A congregation of about 90 Micronesians from the Chuuk islands in the northern Pacific Ocean has worshiped each week in Guilderland since 2011.

The athletes on Guilderland’s Unified Sports basketball team play with heart and love of the game. The Dutch traveled to Bethlehem on Monday and beat the Eagles, 49 to 46.

The Guilderland Dutchmen lacrosse team is driving toward the finish of the regular season, aiming to be in a good position for a deep run in the sectionals. The Dutch traveled to Averill Park to take on the Warriors on their Senior Night.

Every year in May, the Altamont Veterans of Foreign Wars post hosts the annual Loyalty Day to honor our veterans living and who gave the ultimate sacrifice to this country.
