WESTERLO — Town officials in Westerlo hoped for a big turnout Tuesday that would ratify their plan to borrow $887,000 to renovate the former school building that now serves as the town hall.

WESTERLO —  The preliminary $2.8 million town budget does not ignore “the elephant in the room,” says town board member William Bichteman.

Joseph Boone, 49,  was appointed to occupy the seat of  Theodore Lounsbury who resigned from the board early this year.

The town's hopes for an updated town hall hang on voter approval Nov. 8.

At its Tuesday meeting, the town board — over strenuous objections — authorized the expenditure of up to $887,000 and added a bond issue to the Nov. 8 ballot.

BKW Business Manager Sarah Blood told The Enterprise that the erroneous bills were sent to 325 property owners in Westerlo.

WESTERLO — Is help on the way for Westerlo residents who still live without broadband internet?  Maybe.

The volunteer Broadband Research Committee — composed of all the members of the town’s planning board plus several concerned citizens — has been hard at work for five months to make it happen.

WESTERLO —  A town board seat vacant since the resignation of member Theodore Lounsbury early this year has been filled.

At its meeting Tuesday, the board voted unanimously to appoint Joseph Boone, 49, to complete Lounsbury’s term, which would have ended Dec. 31.

The child’s tale about stone soup is being played out in Westerlo as people are contributing to a farm that Dennis Peterson is setting up for his autistic children, hoping it will serve others with disabilities as well.

WESTERLO  —  When is a road no longer a road?

At its July 5 meeting, the Westerlo town board availed itself of its power to certify that a road is no longer a public road because it has had little, or no, use and has been unmaintained for a long time — for at least six years to be exact.
