Westerlo

Councilman Alfred Field voted against setting several salaries and wages, explaining that he does not feel Westerlo can afford raises along with surging insurance costs.

WESTERLO — The grassy shoulders of summer roads were shorn broadly and with pride when Roger Furman and his identical twin, Ralph, were on the mowers.

Mr. Furman lived in Westerlo his entire life and worked for the Albany County Department of Public Works, known in his youth as “the county.”

With two new board members, the town's governing council was deliberative in its work, while the rest of the town celebrated its community institutions and a stunning murder case was closed.

The Republican committee doesn't have any candidates for town board so far, but will support Democrat Keith Wright for highway superintendent.
