With an increase of half of a percent in state Foundation Aid for next year and a limit of $1.6 million more to be raised from taxes, the Guilderland schools are hoping to be able to maintain the programs and staff they have with this year’s $102 million budget.

New York State has put into place tax exemptions to encourage development of renewable energy, which played out last week in Duanesburg, a rural Schenectady County town, that granted payments in lieu of taxes, or PILOTs, for two solar farms.

No matter where in the world she was, Lynne Bruning told The Enterprise, the farm in Duanesburg was always “such an anchor,” she said, “to have grown up in the house where my mother’s mother taught me how to sew and I would sleep under her mother’s quilt.” 

Depending on the source, some New Scotland water customers can pay as much as $26 per 1,000 gallons of water while others pay as little as $4.50. Recently, because their own service had to be shut down, the 127 customers in the Northeast Water District have been paying close to double what they normally pay for water.

Westerlo’s tax levy for 2020 is $1,351,230 —a mere hundred dollars beneath the tax-levy limit of $1,351,336.22

Thanks to more focused revenue projections and a dip into the fund balance, Berne’s 2020 budget promises less spending and lower tax levies.

RENSSELAERVILLE — At their Nov. 14 town board meeting, the councilmembers of Rensselaerville adopted Supervisor John Dolce’s first budget by a vote of 4-1. Marion Cooke was the sole dissenter.

Knox’s adopted 2020 budget will have less spending and level taxes compared to 2019.

New Scotland’s adopted budget for 2020 is down from 2019, but, for the third year in a row, the town has increased taxes albeit by a few pennies.

Less is budgeted next year for the command line in the police department: Chief Carol Lawlor is set to retire in mid-January.
