Chasity McGivern, the Capital Region area representative for the ASSE International Student Exchange, interviewing families for the 2020-21 school year to host high school students from Europe, Asia, the Americas, Australia, or Africa.

David Hoffman has been appointed the associate dean for academic initiatives at Maria College in Albany. Hoffman, who holds a doctorate in bioethics with a concentration in health ethics and policy from Albany Medical College, will also continue in his role as associate professor for ethics and health policy at Maria.

Laurie Carbo-Porter, Ph.D., RN, has been named dean of nursing at Maria College.

The Helderberg Kiwanis Club donated school backpacks for 27 students at Berne-Knox-Westerlo. Each pack included school supplies and new sneakers.

Berne-Knox-Westerlo secondary school has been upgraded and the neighboring elementary school will be renovated, in phases, throughout the school year, as part of a $20 million bond project.

GUILDERLAND — Signs-ups begin on Jan. 17 for Guilderland High School students interested in playing spring sports.

Spring sports start March 6, and include boys’ and girls’ track and field, boys’ and girls’ lacrosse, softball, baseball, boys’ tennis, and unified basketball.
