GUILDERLAND — James J. Almy Sr., a hard-working man who loved his family, died on Friday, July 17, 2020, at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn. He was 87.

Daniel Michael Stewart, age 34, died instantly in a vehicular traffic accident on Sunday,  July 12, 2020, in Forest Grove, Oregon caused by a driver failing to yield the right-of-way.

James Michael Mohan, an engineer and devoted family man, was “known for his wisdom, integrity, and cool under pressure,” his family wrote in a tribute.

“He was our rock and we will miss him every day,” his family wrote.

He died unexpectedly of heart-related issues on Wednesday, July 8, 2020. He was 80.

ALTAMONT — Al VanAuken was a man who was devoted to his wife, and who loved his children and grandchildren. 

He died on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. He was 71.

Harry Allen VanAuken was born to Harry and Olive VanAuken on May 10, 1949, in Guilderland.

Edna Anne Bunzey

BERNE — Edna Anne Bunzey, a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who traveled to most of the 50 states, died peacefully on Sunday, July 5, 2020, at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 95.

EAST BERNE —  Anna (née Kehrer) Hayes, a nurse’s aid whose greatest passion was her family, died on Sunday, June 20, 2020 in the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Delmar. She was 86.

She was born on Aug. 12, 1933 to the late Catherine Kehrer of Glenmont.

GUILDERLAND — Gladys Kniskern O’Brien, a quiet and steadfast woman, was a student in a one-room rural schoolhouse who went on to be valedictorian of her high school and won a scholarship to Syracuse University, leading to her career as a teacher of Spanish and Latin.

She died on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. She was 90.

BERNE — Barbara M. Schaible, formerly of Warners Lake, was a feisty woman who sang in her church choir and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She died on Sunday, June 21, 2020. She was 88.

 She was born on Nov. 10, 1931 in Berne to the late Arnold and Elsie (née Ecker) Mattice.

ALTAMONT — Buddy Munroe’s first memory as a child was tossing empty tin cans around in an old, doorless garage.

BERNE — Roy B. Jones Sr. — a State Trooper, a church-goer, and a family man who loved the outdoors — died peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Friday, June 12, 2020. He was 87.
