William “Bill”  Beardslee of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, formerly of Voorheesville, died on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2020, at his home.

He was the son of the late Will and Jackie Beardslee of Voorheesville.

ALTAMONT — Ardelle M. (née Gordon) Spawn, of Altamont, died peacefully at her son’s home on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020, after a long battle with dementia. She was 76.

She was born on Oct. 12,1943, the daughter of the late Stanley Gordon and Katherine (née Kniskern) Gordon of Central Bridge.

VOORHEESVILLE — Beverley Mavis Carhart died peacefully after a brief stay at Kingsway Arms Nursing Home on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020. She was previously cared for at her beloved home in Voorheesville surrounded by her family and friends. She was 88.

ALTAMONT — Helen Banas Reals, of Saratoga Springs — one of the first female police officers in Los Angeles, and the first female reader at St. Lucy’s Parish in Altamont — died on Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020.  She was 92.

CLIFTON PARK — Leonard J. Berschwinger, known as “Bud,” died peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Saratoga Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

“Bud had celebrated his 93rd birthday just three weeks earlier on Aug. 2,” his family wrote in a tribute.

 

Anne F. Higgs, a retired teacher who lived in Florida, died peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Sunday, Aug. 23, 2020. She was 90.

She was born Nov. 14, 1929 in Manhattan to the late Herman and Margaret Urquhart Forester.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Mark Edward Banovic, a Farnsworth Middle School teacher and coach, died on Friday, Aug. 21, 2020. He was 41.

“Mark was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) on May 30, 2020. His treatment for the disease was unforgiving and he valiantly battled the disease until his passing,” his family wrote in a tribute.

HILLTOWNS — Joseph Salzer Jr., who built the home his family lived in and made his mark on the Capital District and beyond as a carpenter, died on Monday, Aug. 24, 2020 at the Springside Nursing and Rehab Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He was 82.

GUILDERLAND — Kenneth E. Teetsel was, above all else, a dedicated family man, his family wrote in a tribute. An Air Force mechanic, he had a career as a mechanical technician and was devoted to the Lynnwood Reformed Church.

EAST BERNE — James Olin Fallon, of East Berne, a loving father and cherished grandfather, “entered into eternal life on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2020,” his family wrote. He was 70.

Born in Troy, New York on Sept. 22, 1949, he was the son of the late James and Dorothy (née Olin) Fallon.
