The Blackbirds were one match away from a return trip to the state’s Final Four pool play in Glens Falls this weekend — and they clinched it, becoming regional champs for the second year in a row.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds competed in the pool-play portion of the girls’ volleyball state tournament on Saturday afternoon in Glens Falls. The Birds battled hard and played their best against the three teams, finishing with a record of 3-4.

This week, the Guilderland boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams took to the court for their quarterfinal matchups in the Class AA sectional tournament.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds, defending Section 2 champions, are having a slow start to the 2018 season since several key players graduated in June and two current players have suffered injuries.

Only two matches into its season, the Guilderland girls’ volleyball team traveled to Saratoga High School to take on the Blue Streaks, another Suburban Council team.

With sectionals right around the corner, the Guilderland girls’ field hockey and volleyball teams made a final push last week.
