ALTAMONT — Do you enjoy making pirate sounds?  Do you say “Arrrrr,”  a lot?

If you do, matey, join the crowd at this year’s Altamont Fair where the Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean Aerial High Wire Thrill Show will give you plenty of chances to show off your pirate chops.

The Altamont Fair is currently refurbishing the old wooden sign on Route 146.

Biddies will ride in a refurbished Ferris wheel as part of the Chick Follies at the Altamont Fair in August; the state ban on live fowl competitions has been lifted.

ALTAMONT — The arrest of a village resident for stealing 200 pounds of meat from the Altamont fairgrounds is pending results of a fingerprint comparison, Altamont Police said this week.

BERNE — Timothy M. David was arrested this month for a rape police say happened the week of the Altamont Fair in August.

David, 25, of 1721 Helderberg Trail, was charged with third-degree rape, a felony, and with sexual misconduct and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.

Dressed as characters Jasmine or Belle, Claire Guyer walked around the fairgrounds to encourage people to visit the educational areas of the fair.

In traditional fair style, animals and agriculture were the spectacle when a team of huge Belgian draft mares pulled antique vehicles around the fairgrounds this year.

The rides offer thrills while the animals make calming connections.

An average of 26 dogs per year are rescued and adopted through the organization, which operates solely on donations.
