ALTAMONT — A social media spat has spilled over into the courtroom as Jackie Silvestri-Edwards, former owner of Farmhouse Tap + Tavern and founder of the locally-popular 518 Foodies site, is suing the owners of the Taste of Italy restaurant in Latham for defamation, disparagement, and assault.
The Altamont Free Library’s budget for 2024 totaled $208,120, Director Joe Burke told The Enterprise. The town of Guilderland contributed $71,000; the village of Altamont contributed $61,000; and the town of Knox contributed $9,000, he said.
Similar to the first moratorium, the new proposal would limit subdivisions of five or more single-family homes; multiple-family developments of 25 or more dwelling units; and assisted living, independent living, and nursing-home developments of 50 or more dwelling units.
In her executive budget, Hochul included $13.5 million for schools that need help in purchasing pouches or cubbies to store cell phones during the school day. The Guilderland superintendent, Marie Wiles, has estimated it would cost the suburban district with roughly 5,000 students about $110,000 for the next school year. Hochul’s plan is to implement the policy for the 2025-26 school year.

GUILDERLAND — Three more national chains will open stores at Stuyvesant Plaza — one that does piercing, another that sells jewelry, and a third that sells women’s activewear.
While the board’s solidarity for Kelly Person was clear, the board had a rare split vote on granting tax exemptions for low-income elderly and disabled residents. The board also heard a presentation about the district’s reserves and updates on a capital project and reaction to a potential smartphone ban.
In court papers filed Jan. 9, Shannon and Michael Folkin allege the town failed to advise them about wetland regulations and potential violations when approving their pool permit application.
“It’s not about the names, dates, and places,” said Barry Alex Finsel. “It’s about absorbing information, processing it, and expressing it in ways that are efficient.”
Robyn Gray, who chairs the grassroots group Guilderland Coalition for Responsible Growth, pushed the board both to clarify its new building-permit fees and to adopt a building moratorium while the board considers recommendations on updating its comprehensive plan.
