The owner of an average single-family home in Guilderland will be paying roughly $150 more in school taxes this year while the owner of an average home in Knox will be paying roughly $200 less in Guilderland school taxes.

For the first day of school, seniors dress for a theme, student representative Paarth Sarecha told the board. An assistant principal had emailed, Sarecha reported, writing that objections were raised from the school board and from officers in the district’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee over seniors dressing as rappers or pro golfers.

GUILDERLAND — A traffic stop on Western Avenue Sunday, police say, led to a Maine man being charged with illegally possessing a loaded handgun.

Zachary R. Brislin, 22, of Buxton, Maine was charged with second- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon as well as a traffic violation.

The owner of The Apex at Crossgates apartment complex is asking an Albany County court to slash its assessed value by 88.5 percent, from about $28.5 million to $3.25 million.

The Guilderland Zoning Board of Appeals on July 16 gave permission to Yesorno LLC, which owns and operates Happy Days Dispensary in Farmingdale, Nassau County, to open a similarly-named dispensary at 1656 Western Ave.

The proposed aggregate signage totaled about 880 square feet, approximately 560 fewer square feet than what was proposed in June. 

Residents who spoke during the recent town board meeting felt the plan did not say enough about preserving the Albany Pine Bush, but said too much about providing water to Altamont. 

The name Helderberg Indivisible was chosen, Porter said, because people from Berne and Knox are among the protesters who come to Altamont, at the foot of the Helderbergs, for the weekly rally. She estimated “maybe 50” people belong to the group.
