BETHLEHEM — Dorothy Rice Gangai, a woman of grit and grace, instilled self-confidence in her three sons as she took on challenges without complaint. A World War II veteran, she worked a variety of jobs in an era when many women stayed home.

New Scotland has kept its tentative budget, which is set at $7,200,405 for now, under the tax cap for 2015. If the town stays under the cap for two consecutive years, property owners in the municipality will receive a check from the state.

After six years at the helm of the district, Teresa Thayer Snyder will be retiring next July.

Kristine Gravino is stepping down as a member of the Voorheesville School Board, leaving one vacant position the board hopes to fill by the end of October.

A civic organization that helps both the schools in Voorheesville and the community at large had some fun and raised some funds at its annual gala last Friday.
