Solomon Northrup comes to life

CLARKSVILLE — Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7 p.m. at the Clarksville Community Church to meet Solomon Northrup, the central figure of the movie “12 Years A Slave.”

Clifford Oliver Mealy, a well known historical re-enactor, will portray the harrowing life of Solomon Northrup, a Saratoga Springs businessman who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in the antebellum South in 1841.

Mealy is a Washington County native and has been studying Northrup’s life for over 20 years.  He is well known for his vivid portrayals of historical figures.  This is a program that will delve into a very devastating chapter in the history of our country.

The Clarksville Community Church is located on Delaware Turnpike in Clarksville, 10 miles west of Delmar.  The programs are open to the public and refreshments are served following the program.  Please join us for this exciting evening.

Editor’s note: Marilyn Miles is the program chairwoman for the Clarksville Historical Society.
