The feel of patriotism was in full force Saturday on the streets in Voorheesville.

NEW SCOTLAND — John D. Wright, a firefighter and farmer committed to community and family, died on Friday, May 23, 2o17. He was 68.

VOORHEESVILLE — Voorheesville’s high school is on a list of 185 schools in New York identified as Reward Schools.

Anyone with a fond memory of Smith’s Tavern in Voorheesville was invited in this week to buy and take home a piece of a community cultural landmark, just after it shut down.

FEURA BUSH — Clinton J. Zeh died on Monday, May 22, 2017. He was 82. Surrounded by family until the end, Mr. Zeh was known for his love of the outdoors and willingness to help others.

The run for a title for the Voorheesville Blackbirds ended Saturday afternoon in the Class B sectional semifinal in Johnstown. The Blackbirds lost to Albany Academy, 5 to 0, without one hit. It was a perfect game for the Cadets; the ball never left the infield.

Voorheesville baseball

The Voorheesville Blackbirds faced Ichabod Crane in the Class B quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon in Valatie. The sixth-seeded Blackbirds upset the third-seed Riders 6-4 to play Saturday in Johnstown at 1 p.m. against Albany Academy.

New Scotland is proposing a law that would govern commercial-scale solar farms, which haven’t yet been allowed in town.

Just over 500 voters turned out to pass the school and library budgets in Voorheesville and fill three uncontested board seats.
