The village of Voorheesville sent a letter to residents recently with new recycling guidelines. China announced last year that it would no longer take in the world’s recyclables, sending the price of disposal through the roof.

VOORHEESVILLE — Elizabeth E. “Betsy” Bates, an upbeat person who never complained, died on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018. She was 76.

The Blackbirds wanted make deep runs on the pitch and on the gridiron in sectional play. The girls’ soccer team played well deep into the Class B sectionals with a convincing 5-to-0 win last Thursday at home.

Crunch time is here for the Voorheesville Blackbirds’ cross-country and boys’ soccer teams with the regular season coming to a close before sectionals. The soccer team celebrated its seniors on Tuesday afternoon at home against Catholic Central.

Voorheesville teachers Jessica Bradshaw and Kimberly Simon, selected in 2015 as participants in the prestigious New York State Master Teacher Program, have learned from a network of colleagues.

New Scotland’s tentative 2018 budget is up a bit over 2017. Most residents will see a small increase in their taxes.

The first-ever Rocktoberfest will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20, from 5 to 9 p.m, at the Voorheesville Rod and Gun Club. Sales from tickets will benefit the Voorheesville Friends of Music.

William Morrison

VOORHEESVILLE — William Morrison, a World War II veteran who had twin careers as a teacher and actor, died at home on Friday, Oct. 5, 2018. He was 95.

Randy Lee Edwards

VOORHEESVILLE — Randy Lee Edwards, who “worked on the bridges that span the great State of New York,” was a compassionate and loving man, his family said.

He died on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018. He was 51.
