After a brightly colored parade, residents gathered to hear solemn speeches in the hamlet of Knox on Memorial Day. “We’re here to honor the dead,” Don Champion, an Army veteran and member of the Knox Volunteer Fire Company, said in his introductory remarks during the ceremony.  

The Memorial Day parade through the hamlet of Berne was a loud and vibrant gathering in the street, but quickly turned to the quiet respect of hanging heads and flag raising.

Kristen Reynders, the owner of Hitmans Towing, appeared in Knox Town Court with her lawyer, father, and several supporters. Her lawyer requested the trial be heard by a jury, scheduled for July.
