Fueled by a bond defeat that would have upgraded town buildings, Republicans in this rural Hilltown, dominated by Democrats for decades, have put up a slate of candidates for the Nov. 3 election.

The grant money is being spent on equipment to help with car crashes since the company answers accident calls far more frequently than fire calls, the fire chief said.

The inaugural class will be inductedinto the new Berne-Knox-Westerlo Sports Hall of Fame on Oct. 9; the community is invited.

WESTERLO — Marion Dunbar Cooper, a homemaker and ceramist, died on Monday morning, Sept. 28, 2015, in the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was 88.

WESTERLO — Earnest A. “Ernie” Hallock, a long-time highway worker, died on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at his Westerlo home. He was 81.

Born in Albany on Dec. 7, 1933, he was son of the late Alanson J. and Violet Harrington Hallock.
