WESTERLO  —  When is a road no longer a road?

At its July 5 meeting, the Westerlo town board availed itself of its power to certify that a road is no longer a public road because it has had little, or no, use and has been unmaintained for a long time — for at least six years to be exact.

KNOX— The yet-to-be-named rebuilt building in the Knox hamlet is nearing completion.

Owner and town supervisor Vasilios Lefkaditis has a list of possible tenants for his 3,000-square-foot building, which is  being divided into three 1,000-square-foot commercial spaces.

The day after the Fourth of July, the Old Men of the Mountain met at the Chuck Wagon Diner in Princetown.

Shirley Ruth Wells King, a mother of six children, was a creative cook known for the maple cream she produced on her family’s sugarbush in Knox. “Always learning, always sharing, always loving and caring,” is how her family described her in a tribute.

RENSSELAERVILLE — Perry M. Moak and Ellen A. Schenk fell in love in their youth and formed a union that lasted 63 years.

He died peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. She died two days later with a broken heart, her family said. He was 84 and she was 82.

Since this is the graduation issue, I thought I’d take this opportunity to give a commencement address.

WESTERLO — Marie O. Bryan, an outgoing woman with a career in insurance, always put her family first. She died on Friday, July 1, 2016, at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. She was 75.

In a prepared statement,Timothy Mundell, the BKW district superintendent, said McMorris is moving on to “new professional opportunities, we wish her the very best.”

HILLTOWNS — During the month of May, the Helderberg Ambulance Squad was very busy.  There were 21 transports to the hospital — 18 were medical, one trauma, and two motor-vehicle accidents.  There were eight cancelled calls and four non-transports. Eighteen of the calls were in the town of Berne and eight were in the town of Knox.
