WESTERLO — The town is hosting a Summer Recreation Program at the Westerlo Town Park for the week of July 31 through Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to noon. All children entering first through sixth grade, and who reside within the town of Westerlo, are eligible to attend.

KNOX — The Knox Youth Council and the town of Knox invite area youth to participate in the 2017 Youth Soccer Program this fall. This is a fun program that helps build basic soccer skills and/or introduces soccer to new players. Youth age 3 through sixth grade will participate in soccer clinics and small-sided games.

In the rural Hilltowns, an area described as “unserved and underserved,” in terms of internet, service providers are looking to change this.

The Department of Environmental Conservation oversaw cleanup to ensure neither accident polluted nearby bodies of water.

Kevin Flensted and Richard Filkins are running for the seats currently occupied by Democrats Joseph Boone and William Bichteman.

A Westerlo woman has been charged by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office with animal cruelty. The 64-year-old woman reportedly had over 100 animals living on her property in what police described as “deplorable conditions.”

The schedule was moved up by about a year, and the town intends to request the speed limit be lowered along the route following its repaving.

KNOX — Eric and Cathy White of Knox are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jodi White, to Wyatt Moller, son of Randy and Mary Moller, also of Knox.

KNOX — A lifelong forester and family man, Frederick W. Oettinger was also active in helping the Knox community as a volunteer firefighter and president of the historical society.

He died peacefully at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland on Friday, June 30, 2017.

At a packed public hearing Tuesday night on a proposed business district at the intersection of routes 156 and 157, the Knox Town Board vote was tied 2 to 2, with one absent member, as the audience grew heated with the deliberation.
