Something uniquely Guilderland took place at the high school on May 14.

About 500 music students from grades five through high school presented a district-wide concert. It’s such a big deal it would be difficult to do on an annual basis so it is presented once every three years.

GUILDERLAND — A woman says she was assaulted when she was out for a walk on Tuesday and the police are asking anyone who might have seen the suspect to call them.

A press release from the Guilderland Police Department said events unfolded this way:

GUILDERLAND — Timothy Whittemore wants to live vicariously through his clients in his new travel business.

Whittemore decided to become what he terms a “vacation specialist” with a franchise called CruiseOne after he left active duty with the United States Air Force.

The Altamont Senior Citizens Group, which meets for lunch on Tuesdays at St. Lucy’s Parish Center on Grand Street, is holding a special program on May 27, following the luncheon.

We received an e-mail from Jim’s niece that she and her husband had purchased a motor home and were making plans to travel across the country. 

One of our favorite essays is Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Self-Reliance,” which contains this nugget: “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines.”

No doubt enjoyed by little newspaper editors, too.

Recently, a local television station published an opinion segment critical of the money that the Guilderland Public Library spends to inform the citizens we serve about the library’s programs, services, and collections.

School board elections are uncontested for the second year in a row, leading one member to suggest a recruitment forum for next year and another to recommend a student member.

Guilderland has about 120 special-needs students eligible for Medicaid reimbursement but only half signed up so the district could get reimbursed for services.
