GUILDERLAND — Barbara Fouhy, described by her daughter-in-law as a “very loving and caring woman,” died at home in Lake Placid, on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, surrounded by her family. She was 90.

Linda Chaffee wrote a letter to the Enterprise editor on Sept. 5, declaring that she thought the $3.9 million bond project vote was “probably” legal, but that it was “possibly not” ethical.

 

Color bombs of blue, green, pink, purple, and yellow cornstarch showered runners at the Altamont fairgrounds.

Two friends, a hair stylist and a manicurist, are taking a recent beauty school graduate under their wing in a gender-neutral salon. First-time business owner Sarah McDonald used to work in a hair salon at the same location.

Tahlia Hadley will never forget the warmth of the elderly woman, a stranger, whose home she painted. Now the youth minister for St. Madeleine Parish, she is organizing a Christian work camp to help the needy in Guilderland next July.

We all live in the same world but think and feel in different ones, as Walter Lippmann observed when he launched the modern use of "stereotype." We must resist the urge to simplify by categorizing others, and see instead in three-dimensional shades of gray.

For years, the mayor of Altamont says, he has begged and begged to get the state to repair the entry roads to the village. This summer,, Route 146 fro the east was repaved; next week, work will start on repaving Route 156 from the south.

Our daughter, Cindy had a birthday a few weeks ago. That we have already talked about, but we did not do justice to one part of the party that was really very special,  the birthday cake.

It was a beautiful day for golf at Western Turnpike Golf Course on Monday, and Guilderland scored low.
