Joseph Michael Colligan, a United States Air Force veteran and restaurant manager, died peacefully, at his home, on Monday, Dec. 12, 2014. He was 50.

Mr. Colligan was born on Nov. 2, 1964, in Goshen, to the late Joseph and Margaret (née Cunningham) Colligan.

The New York Retired Volunteer Firefighters Association is seeking new members who wish to stay connected with the companies and firefighters with whom they served.

These members of the New York Army National Guard have recently been promoted:

— Robert Rhodes from West Sand Lake, serving with the 27th Infantry Company Combat Team, is promoted to the rank of Private First Class;

GUILDERLAND — The school board here is recruiting volunteers to serve on a new task force, "Investigating Alternative Uses of Space: Repurposing Task Force."

WESTERLO — Pioneer Clubs members and leaders at First Baptist Church at 618 Route 143 in Westerlo will celebrate Pioneer Clubs Sunday on Jan.

The Albany Pine Bush Preserve, through the not-for-profit Friends of the Pine Bush Community, will receive support from the “Community Giving Day” at Whole Foods Market Albany on Jan. 15.

Joseph Persico, a Guilderland author and Navy veteran who died in August, is honored at a ceremony on Jan. 5, where the words he wrote for the World War II monument in Washington were recalled.

The school board will move ahead with setting up a task force — of citizen volunteers and staff — to investigate ways to use excess space in the district’s schools.

The Altamont Free Library is inviting our community to come celebrate!  We are hosting the eighth Annual I Love My Library Gala and auction.  This year, our honorees are Pat Spohr and Tony Kossmann.

The Homeless and Travelers Aid Society has called a Code Blue homeless alert through Monday, Jan. 12. Temperatures are predicted to rise above 10 degrees on Tuesday, Jan. 13, with a projected return to Code Blue status on Thursday, Jan. 15.
