He used false Social Security numbers to apply for jobs, receive wages, and file income-tax returns, police say.

Running on the Altamont First line, Nicholas Fahrenkopf was the top vote-getter with 210. His running mate, Michelle Ganance, garnered  193 votes. Fahrenkopf had been on the board since 2015; Ganance was appointed just this past year. They ran on their records.

A Guilderland wrestling coach, his pregnant wife, infant son, and mother were displaced this weekend by a house fire on Vaughn Drive that firefighters had extinguished, but that rekindled about an hour after all the firefighters had left.

In addition to voting on bond projects and budgets, voters will be selecting library and school board members on May 21.

Because the Thruway bridge on East Old State Road has a vertical clearance that is almost one-and-a-half feet lower than the current standard and has been hit before, said Todd Gold of the Thruway Authority, it wouldn’t be safe to keep it open during rebuilding.

But, said consultant Andrew Farbstein, who is working with the town assessor on the revaluation, “This doesn’t mean people can’t bring in other comps that they think are better. If we were sure that everything we were saying was right, why would be meeting with people?”

Daniel Barker, Altamont’s new historian, would like to scan historic documents and make local oral history available on the village’s website.
