ALTAMONT — Sergeant First Class Michael Giarrusso of Altamont has reenlisted to continue service with the Joint Force Headquarters of the New York State Army National Guard.

Subcommittee member Daniel Centi said he thinks that the recent nomination of town-board candidate Laurel Bohl at the April 2019 caucus highlighted a flaw in the caucus system: that anyone can be nominated and become a candidate, without prior vetting by the Guilderland Democratic Committee. He wants to look into whether the party can legally find a way to require that anyone planning to enter the race at a caucus must be vetted in advance. 

The money was a part of fundraising efforts throughout the year, and the coats were donated by G-III Apparel Group, Ltd.

ALBANY COUNTY — Bruce Hilliard, a resident of the Albany County’s nursing home, has had his artwork selected for a 2020 “Art From the Heart” calendar.

His painting is titled “Pagoda Lights” and is featured on the cover of the calendar.

If each of us commits to giving just a bit of our time and talents, the community as a whole will benefit.

“The aging population is increasing,” says Joel Edwards, a founder of Community Caregivers. “There is a socio-economic stress of, often, both adults working. And our families aren’t near. We need volunteers. We always need more volunteers.”

After deciding to put off making a decision until after the holidays, the Altamont Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing on Feb. 11 for Stewart’s Shops variance requests for its proposed Altamont Boulevard project.
