Well, the library is still closed. The governor has extended the lockdown until the end of April, which seems a long way off at this point.
All programs and meetings in the Library Community Room have been cancelled through April 30, including community reservations. If you had an event scheduled at the library, please be sure to inform your participants it has been cancelled or postponed.
Your local librarians, however, are still working hard to try to make this necessary isolation a little more bearable. Please check it out at www.voorheesvillelibrary.org. If you are not already following us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, you’re missing some fun stuff.

For those children who miss story time and library tots story hour, there is now a video of Mrs. Brown doing story time from her living room. You can be sure that she (like all of us) would much rather be at the library doing story time but, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Stay home, and watch from the safety of your living room. Watch for more episodes from our talented crew.

Here is a letter from Voorheesville Public Library Director, Sarah Clark:
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation while the library is closed. We have been working every day to provide new content and services online. If you have never read an e-book or listened to a downloadable audiobook, we are here to help you with that process. Reference librarians are responding to emails at during all of our regular business hours.
In addition to providing new and more copies of digital titles, we’ve compiled a list of other ways to stay informed, engaged, and entertained while staying safe at home. If you visit our website, www.voorpl.org, you will see a promotion box, “Library from Home: Resources, Projects, and More.”
Click on the box to find a growing list of fun and educational ways to pass the time. Ever wanted to learn a new language? Try Duolingo. Take a Virtual Field Trip to the Louvre! See and hear authors and illustrators read their own books aloud!
Do you have library books, movies, or any other materials at home? Don’t fret! Your due dates will be automatically extended, and we will be waiving any fines accrued during our closure.
If you want to enjoy online resources, but don’t have a library card, we have you covered. Under the “Borrow” menu on the website, you’ll find a link to get a card online that you can start using right away.
Finally, now is a great time to start following us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It’s a good way to stay informed, but it’s also where we’re having a lot of fun these days.
We’ve asked our patrons to share pictures of their pets, show us what books they’re hoping to read, and we’ll be posting some activities you can do at home to boost your creativity and your mood.
We can’t wait to see you in person, and until then, stay safe, everyone!
