Creative stitches

On Monday, August 4 through Friday August 8, at 9:30 a.m. to noon, Members of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America help with embroidery projects. Attendance at all five sessions is required. This program is for children ages 9 and up. Please call to sign up.

On Wednesday, August 6, at 2 p.m., compete in crazy games that you have got to get done in 60 seconds! This is for children in grades six through 12.

On Tuesday, July 8, at 2:30 p.m., explore buoyancy and density with demonstrations and hands-on experiments at the Bethlehem Public Library. This summer science program is for kids in kindergarten and up with a caregiver.

Pajama rama

On Tuesday, July 8, at 7 p.m., hear the Scrubby Bear story, learn his hand-washing song, see “glo-germs” and get a Clean Hands Club card. This program is presented by the Red Cross for kids up to age six with family and friends.

Evening on the Green

On Wednesday, July 9, at 7 p.m., The Lustre Kings will perform authentic rockabilly music at the library. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Concerts move indoors if it rains.

Social robotics

On Thursday, July 10, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., presenters from UAlbany’s Social Robotics Workshop will talk about robot-human interaction. Participants will program a robot to perform a simple task. This program is for kids in grades six through 12.

Saratoga Racetrack

On Thursday, July 10, at 7 p.m., Allan Carter, historian for the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga, will share images and anecdotes of the historic track’s greatest moments. His colleague Jim Melia will describe physical changes made to the track over the years.

What’s that?

On Friday, July 11, at 10 a.m., the Five Rivers staff will help us explore macro invertebrates from an area pond. Families are welcome.

Knitting

Knitters of all ages, beginners and experts alike, are invited to take part in Worldwide Knit In Public Day at the library on Saturday June 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Giveaways, drawings, and “yarn bombings” are scheduled throughout the day.

Free mini classes will be offered by staff of The Spinning Room in Altamont. New knitters can bring No. 8 knitting needles for a beginners’ lesson at 2 p.m.

Weather permitting, the event will be held on the library green; bring a chair or blanket. Light refreshments will be provided; feel free to bring a picnic lunch.

On Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m., bring a current project or, if you’re a beginner, bring size 8 knitting needles to the Bethlehem Public Library for Knit One, Purl One; we’ll provide yarn to get you started. This program is for adults and children age nine and up.

Author and illustrator visit

Local author Richard Matturro will read from his latest novel, Medea, at the library on Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m. He will be joined by artist Mary Trevor Thomas, whose line drawings and photos illustrate Matturro’s work. Matturro and Thomas will share their views and insights on artistic collaboration. A book sale and signing will follow the talk.

On Wednesday, May 28, at 7 p.m., local author Paul Castellani will talk about his novel Sputnik Summer. A question and answer time plus a book signing will follow. This program is supported by Friends of Bethlehem Public Library.

Preschool prom

On Friday, May 30, at 10 a.m., come to the library in fancy clothes and celebrate the end of the story time season. Dancing, games, and a promenade around the library are part of the fun. This program is for kids up to age six with family.

Paws to Read

On Saturday, May 31, at 3 p.m., drop into the library and read to Kitty, a gentle dog who loves stories. For kids in grades one through five.

 

 

On Friday, May 16, at 1 p.m., a member of the Yaddo Garden Association will present a virtual tour and share historical information about Yaddo and its founders at the Bethlehem Public Libraryy. This program is cosponsored by Bethlehem Senior Projects, Inc.

Minecraft  3-D

Growing roses in the northeast

On May 21, at 6:30 p.m., join us at the library to learn how to select, plant and maintain rose varieties that grow well in our area. Presented by David Gade, supervisor of garden operations at the world-class Central Park Rose Garden in Schenectady.
