On Friday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m., the library’s Alzheimer’s series will be Know the 10 Signs, presented by the Alzheimer’s Association and Community Caregivers.

Building challenge
On Thursday, Sept. 12, at 3:45 p.m., come to the library for the Building Challenge: Spaghetti Towers. Build a tall structure with 20 sticks of spaghetti, 10 marshmallows, and 20 minutes. Take the STEM challenge. Call 439-9314 to sign up. For kids in grade 1 through 5.
Music and movement
On Friday, Sept. 13, at 10 a.m., come to the library to sing, dance, and play an instrument. This program is for children ages 2 to 6 and their families.
Teen advisory group
On Friday, Sept. 13, at 3:30 p.m., TAG will meet to talk about teen programs and activities at the library. For kids in grades 6 through 12.
Bethlehem Public Library will be closed Saturday, Aug. 31 through Monday, Sept. 2, for the Labor Day weekend. Regular hours resume Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 9 a.m. Sunday hours resume Sept. 8 at noon. Access the library catalog and other library services online anytime at www.bethlehempubliclibrary.org.

Zucchini Brothers
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., join us for the Zucchini Brothers.
Some folks call them the Beatles of kids’ music. Be prepared to sing and dance to their particular brand of fun. Families are welcome. This program is sponsored by Friends of Bethlehem Public Library.
On Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m., come to the Bethlehem Public Library and play the traditional game Rock Paper, Scissors and some modern variations. Sign in when you arrive for a place in the competition. For kids in grades 1 through 7.

Bones

Native plants
On Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 2 p.m., learn about plants and trees of this region from a Thacher Nature Center educator. For kids in grade 1 and up.
Dig into art
On Thursday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m., come to the library and make a mixed media creation inspired by the whimsical sculpture “Personnage” by Catalan artist Joan Miro. Call 439-9314 to sign up. For kids in grade 1 and up.

Geoffrey Kirkpatrick, director of Bethlehem Public Library, has won the post of president of the New York Library Association.
Jeremy Johannesen, executive director of the New York Library Association, has announced that Bethlehem Public Library Director Geoffrey Kirkpatrick has won the post of NYLA president for the 2014-15 term.
In the meantime, Kirkpatrick will serve on the NYLA Council as president-elect.
In a recent statement, Kirkpatrick summarized the challenges ahead for 21 Century libraries; “Libraries are poised to enter a period of greater engagement with users, communities, and resources. Both new and traditional roles are being blended into the essential services of tomorrow.”
On Wednesday, July 31, at 7 p.m., Bethlehem Public Library will present Evening on the Green: Captain Squeeze and the Zydeco Moshers. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Concerts move indoors if it rains.
Geodes

Creative stitches
