Borrego Solar is seeking variances to be able to clear-cut more trees than code allows and to have its solar panels located closer to all the neighbors’ property lines than what is currently allowed by law, which was one of the reforms included in the April amendments package to the town’s solar law.

The now-1,200 square-foot Pakistani restaurant will be housed in the former Subway sandwich shop. The space has been under construction for some time, but now, with a permit in hand, it can open for business. Nadia Raza, Curry Patta’s owner, told The Enterprise she anticipates opening the weekend of Dec. 4.

The New Scotland solar law’s prime-soil and soils-of-statewide-importance provisions make siting a solar project in town nearly impossible. 

The Voorheesville Central School District in a letter to parents said that “based on the timing of when” a person newly diagnosed with COVID-19 was “last at school, the Albany County Department of Health has indicated no need for further action, on behalf of the school, to have school community members quarantine.” 

During an Oct. 6 town board meeting, Supervisor Peter Barber noted that Guilderland had been prepared for a difficult 2021 budget in part because of planning that began long before anyone had heard of the coronavirus.

With over 130,000 early and in-person ballots counted on Tuesday, Republican Richard Amedure maintains a 6.26-percent lead over Democrat Michelle Hinchey, 66,784 votes to 58,613, in the race for the 46th state Senate District, according to unofficial election results from the state Board of Elections.

The store had “never really grown to be a big financial producer for Phillips Hardware,” said Jonathan Phillips of his company’s Voorheesville store, which closed this week. 

As housing development has increased in New Scotland over the past decade, the historic Bender melon farm will remain an oasis of open space.

After two years and two lawsuits related to the project — with one suit still in progress — the Guilderland Planning Board approved Pyramid’s proposed 222-unit apartment and townhome development for Rapp Road.
