The Mercury Refining Company Inc., originally known as MERECO, is at 26 Railroad Ave. on the sliver of land to the northeast of the panhandle of Albany that is located in Guilderland, and also partially in Colonie. From 1955 to 1998, Mercury Refining operated an industrial facility that recovered mercury from various materials, leaving the soil, groundwater, and sediment contaminated with toxic mercury and polychlorinated biphenyls, known as PCBs. 

Most neighborhoods in the largely-Democratic Enterprise coverage area moved towards President Donald Trump during the 2024 election, so The Enterprise spoke with the chairmen of the Albany County Democratic and Republican committees about what that might mean for upcoming local elections.

More than 200,000 New Yorkers have enrolled for New York Mobile ID, a voluntary, secure digital version of a state-issued driver license, learner’s permit, or ID.

The state’s Department of Motor Vehicles first announced the Mobile ID in June 2024.

Located at 120 Park Street, work on the 1.86 acre parcel would include demolition of two existing buildings, the village post office and another on the site. 

At the end January, Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy issued an executive order halting for 90 days the agricultural use of biosolids within county limits.

The highway superintendent of the town of Charleston, in Montgomery County, claims that Berne Highway Superintendent Randy Bashwinger told him his friend would challenge him for that position unless he was hired as an employee. Bashwinger denies this. 

Registration is now open for New York’s 2025 Farm Employer Overtime Credit Advance program.

The refundable tax credit is available for eligible farm employers who pay overtime wages based on the gradual phase-in of the state’s threshold.

“I wanted to show kids that cutting a tree down is not all bad,” said Justin Perry. “You can get something out of a forest without destroying the forest.”
