On Tuesday, March 25, the Guilderland and Bethlehem flag football teams participated in tune-up drills for the upcoming season at the first-ever flag football jamboree at the dome at Christian Brothers Academy. The schools got three special instructors in players from the New York Giants.

The undefeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys’ basketball team traveled to Binghamton and captured the schools’ first-ever state championship. On Friday, the Bulldogs started out quick and pulled away to win, 70 to 46, over Section 1’s Tuckahoe. Then on Saturday evening, the Bulldogs used a strong second half to take the title in their 63-to-47 win over Honeoye. In that victory, Shane Kirker had his 1,000th point.

This past weekend, March 14 to 16, the Guilderland, Voorheesville, and Bethlehem indoor track athletes competed at the New Balance Nationals in Boston. They competed against the nation’s top high-school athletes.

Last Wednesday, March 12, the Voorheesville Blackbirds started their quest towards the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s state final four.

Last Wednesday, March 12, Guilderland students and avid pickleball players took to the courts inside the West gym at Guilderland High School for the second annual tournament.

On Sunday, March 9, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys’ basketball team, the top seed in Class C, faced off against a familiar foe in Duanesburg. The Bulldogs faced the Eagles twice this year and won.

On Saturday, March 8, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Voorheesville indoor track athletes took to the track at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in the New York State Public High School track championships.

On Friday, March 7, Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic and Bethlehem’s Owen Lilly took to the pool at Ithaca College for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s championships. Brkanovic competed in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and Lilly in the 100-meter butterfly.

Last Wednesday, March 5, the top-seeded Voorheesville Blackbirds were looking to take that next step and get to a sectional final but first had to get past Coxsackie-Athens in the Section 2, Class B sectional semifinal.

Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic became a state champion Saturday, winning the 50-yard freestyle race at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s championships in Ithaca.

On Monday, March 3, the Berne-Knox-Westerlo boys’ basketball squad, the top seed in Class C, took to the court at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls for the Section 2 semifinals against North Warren with a date in the finals on Sunday against Duanesburg.

On Saturday, March 1, Class B top-seed Voorheesville girls’ basketball squad hosted the eighth-seeded Corinth at Clayton A. Bouton. The Blackbirds used their full-court-pressure defense all game long to pull out a 56-to-41 win.

On Saturday, March 1, Guilderland, in Class A, and Berne-Knox-Westerlo, in Class D, cheer teams competed in the Section 2 championships for a ticket to the state championships on Saturday, March 8, in Binghamton. The Bulldogs won their first-ever championship while the Dutch finished third.

Last Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28 and March 1, two of Berne-Knox-Westerlo-Middleburgh’s wrestlers battled the state’s top wrestlers in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s meet at the MVP Arena in Albany.
