Photos: Local Teams Battle Against The Best Of NYS

On Saturday, March 8, Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Bethlehem, Guilderland, and Voorheesville indoor track athletes took to the track at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in the New York State Public High School track championships.

Happy times: Guilderland’s Parker Steele clears the last hurdle with a smile on her face as she takes her preliminary heat. Steele would finish 4th in the state and 5th in federations with a time of 8.15 seconds.

Going neck and neck: Bulldogs’ Kole Irwin and Kellenberg Memorial’s Damion Gordon Jr. both race down the track during their 55-meter dash preliminary heat. Irwin finished 12th with a time of 6.56 seconds.

Running strong: Eagles’ Sophia Chromczak looks ahead as she pumps her arms during a lap in the 3000-meters. Chromczak finished 16th with a time of 10:08.76.

Competing hard: Eagles’ Logan Kuhn looks to make a pass on Pine Plains’ Violet Bliss as they come around the turn in the 3000-meters. Kuhn finished 12th with a time of 9:57.95.

Full extension: Guilderland’s Tatum Cramer leaps up with her arms held up high as she soars towards the pit during her attempt in the triple jump. Cramer finished 2nd in the state and federations with a distance of 39 feet, 5 inches and finished 2nd in the long jump.

Dutch soaring: Guilderland’s Kirsten Barnhart soars in the air after leaping from her last step in the triple jump. Barnhart finished 3rd in the state and federation with a distance of 38 feet, 6.75 inches and finished 10th in long jump.

Taking charge: Guilderland’s Will Smitas gets the lead in his 3200-meters heat as they make their way around the turn. Smitas finished in 13th with a time of 9:22.56.

In the mix: Guilderland’s Alexa Kosier comes around the turn with other competitors as they complete a lap in the 1000-meters. Kosier finished 20th with a time of 3:01.83.

Picking them off: Eagles’ Charlotte O’Meara starts to gain speed as she comes around the turn to look to pass the runner in front of her in the 1000-meters. O’Meara finished 19th with a time of 3:01.73.

Flying around: Eagles’ Jonathan Radcliffe sprints around the turn as he competes in the 300-meter preliminary. Radcliffe finished 22nd with a time of 35.55 seconds.

Sailing along: Guilderland’s Jack Larson speeds around the turn as he competes in his 300-meter run heat. Larson finished 23rd with a time of 35.71 seconds and 13th in the long jump.

Biding her time: Guilderland’s Addison Vellekoop (4) looks for an opening to get past three of her competitors in her 600-meter heat. Vellekoop finished 2nd in the state and 3rd in federation with a time of 1:31.56, a new section 2 and school record.

Leading the way: Eagles’ Anna Chrapowitzky gets out in the open to take the lead in her 1500-meter run. Chrapowitzky finished 9th with a time of 4:41.27.

Deep breath: Guilderland’s Braelyn Cornell looks ahead as she looks to get past Skaneateles’ Lucy Fleckenstein during her 1500-meter heat. Cornell finished 29th with a time of 4:59.50.

Speed demon: Guilderland’s Saida Assabahi goes up on the banking of the track at full speed as she competes in her 300-meter final. Assabahi finished 6th in the state and 7th in federation with a time of 39.41 seconds, a new school record.
