Photos: Guilderville’s Brkanovic and Bethlehem’s Lilly Battle NYS Best

On Friday, March 7, Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic and Bethlehem’s Owen Lilly took to the pool at Ithaca College for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s championships. Brkanovic competed in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle and Lilly in the 100-meter butterfly. On Saturday, Brkanovic won the state title in the 50-yard freestyle.

Take off: Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic leaps off from the starting block in the 50-yard freestyle heat. Brkanovic finished fourth overall on Friday with a time of 20.91 seconds and on Saturday won the State title with a time of 20.52 seconds.

Water everywhere: Bethlehem’s Owen Lilly gets a breath of air as he swims in the 100-yard butterfly on his second lap. Lilly finished 33rd overall in the state with a time of 53.20 seconds.

Determined swim: Guilderville’s Isak Brkanovic turns his head to get a breath as he battles in the 100-yard freestyle heat. Brkanovic finished fourth overall on Friday with a time of 46.44 seconds and on Saturday finished 2nd in the state with a time of 45.38 seconds and won the state title in the 50-yard free.
