Rensselaerville water district to undergo income survey

Determining the median income of the Rensselaerville water district will potentially make the district eligible for more funding for district improvement projects, since it’s believed that the water district may have a lower median income than the town overall.

Three charged after shots fired in Guilderland

GUILDERLAND — Police here were called on Sunday at about 1:145 a.m. for shots fired at Frenches Hollow Road and the Watervliet Reservoir, leading to the arrest of two men and a juvenile for having a stolen weapon.

Five charged with selling alcohol to minors

BETHLEHEM — Five people were charged with selling alcohol to minors after the Bethlehem Police worked with the state’s Liquor Authority on April 11, checking 27 establishments in town.

After bird flu found in cows, vets asked for samples

Veterinarians are being asked to submit samples from potentially affected cows to Cornell’s Animal Health Diagnostic Center, which is sequencing the virus to determine how it spreads and ways to prevent it.

Would guide rails have saved R’ville home? It’s too late to know

Anthony Esposito, who lost his house along State Route 145 in Rensselaerville when an SUV crashed into it, setting it on fire, said he had made several requests for guide rails because he had long been concerned about cars coming off the road. The New York State Department of Transportation said that it has no record of any requests.

School janitor charged with unlawful surveillance

David Ague was arrested by the Albany County Sheriff’s Office for unlawful surveillance after a staff member at Voorheesville Elementary School discovered a cellphone on April 9 that Ague allegedly planted in a staff bathroom in order to record people. 

Marine to be awarded GHS diploma 40 years after his classmates

Robert Porter says people he knows are taken aback to learn he didn’t graduate from high school.

He’s 58 and will be receiving his diploma at Guilderland High School on May 14.

Voorheesville’s tentative 2024-25 budget up 1.6%, taxes up 2.25%

The village property tax rate is set to increase 2.25 percent next year, from about $1.32 per $1,000 of assessed value this year to approximately $1.36 per $1,000 next year. The entire village has an assessed value of about $264.5 million, of which about 92 percent is taxable, and is up from $262.5 million.
