An estimated 25 to 30 million adults without health insurance in the United States are to have the cost of the new vaccine covered by a bridge program that runs out in December 2024.

It took responders nearly 24-hours to find Wesley L. Knapp, an 82-year-old man from Pennsylvania who was declared missing the night of Sept. 10 after phoning his wife to let her know he was stuck in mud in the Stage Road area of Berne. 

“Not only was the building condemned by the town but also the county engineer signed off on that,” said Supervisor Peter Barber at the Sept. 5 town board meeting. “So it’s my understanding that the building is going to have a red X if it doesn’t have one already.”

ALBANY COUNTY — The National Weather Service on Friday afternoon issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Albany County.

At 3:06 p.m., the service said, as indicated by radar, a severe thunderstorm was located over Guilderland, moving northeast at 20 miles per hour.

Under the belief that an auto dealer would be setting up in Rensselaerville, dozens of residents showed up at a planning board hearing to learn that that was not the case — but it didn’t stop them from airing their grievances anyway.

Ahead of the Rensselaerville Historical Society’s annual Attic Treasures fundraiser, where the $10 admission covers one free appraisal with a small fee for any beyond that, The Enterprise spoke with one of the featured appraisers, Russ Carlsen, of the Carlsen Gallery auction house in Freehold, about valuing and selling antique objects.

The Knox Conservation Advisory Council is restoring the wetlands boardwalk in town, making improvements along the way. It’s calling on community volunteers to help complete the project before the group reaches the December deadline for the grant money it received.

The county announced on Thursday, Sept. 7, that Route 85 would reopen to traffic in both directions on Friday afternoon.

ALBANY COUNTY — On Friday afternoon, traffic is expected to flow in both directions on Route 85 in Slingerlands after having been closed for a failed bridge-replacement project.

A number of village residents had spoken in favor of keeping chickens in the village at the board’s July 18 meeting, leading the village board to draft a local law to that effect. A public hearing on the law has been scheduled for Oct. 3. 

“Hot and humid conditions are expected to continue across some areas on Thursday where another heat advisory will likely be needed,” said the National Weather Service on Tuesday evening. “In addition, there is a chance of thunderstorms Thursday through Sunday, mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours.”

The state will conduct outreach to the State Education Department and BOCES to survey needs for test kits and masks. After the requests have been submitted, the state will deliver the requested tests and N-95 and KN-95 masks to each BOCES for distribution to school districts.

Ibrahím Pedriñán, who is president of American Postal Workers Union Local 390 and the Albany County Central Federation of Labor, spoke with The Enterprise about the issues facing  United States postal workers, how citizens are affected, and why some people think the problems with the postal service are more than just mismanagement.

The press event was to both celebrate a new sidewalk on Route 146, that runs from the new roundabout to the school, as well as to stress the importance of safe driving as children return to school on Thursday Sept. 7.

GUILDERLAND — A car crash on Route 20 near the River of Life Church sent several people to the hospital on Friday night.

They are in stable condition, according to a release from the Guilderland Police.
