Grateful Dead tribute band Bearly Dead are headlining the two-day High Altitude Festival in Guilderland, which takes place Sept. 29 and 30. 

The grant from the state’s Water Infrastructure Improvement Act may fund up to $3 million or 60 percent of the $6.6 million project. The town’s portion of the payment, to cover the balance of the project, Supervisor Peter Barber said, would come from “the reserve funds that the water department has on hand.”

Control of Crossgates Mall remains in the hands of Pyramid Management Group.

Altamont Free Library Director Burke said the library along with major community stakeholders will examine “whether we can better ensure our continued existence under a different organizational model, possibly as a special district library with independent taxing authority, possibly as a branch of the Guilderland Public Library, or possibly under some other organizational model.”

In a letter from Norfolk Southern Railway to Voorheesville Mayor Rich Straut, the company said site work anticipated to start the week of Aug. 28. 

Albany County was one of 31 counties in the state to be named a primary natural disaster area by the United States Department of Agriculture. This designation allows farmers to apply for emergency loans to recover their operations after a natural disaster.

The New York State Police Emergency Response Team was on the scene with its robot. “For the safety of everyone, we sent in the robot,” said Guilderland Police Captain Eric Batchelder. “The robot found him,” he said of the suspect. “The team went in and apprehended him once it was determined to be safe.”

On Aug. 15, the Guilderland Town Board was due to vote on extending for one year Local Law Number 2 of 2021, which allowed for the construction of 86 affordable senior-housing units amid the Albany Pine Bush. 

The village is undergoing a resurgence of interest in its history as a joint village and town Historic Preservation Commission this year released a survey by Hartgen Archeological Associates found three places in New Scotland that might, with work, be eligible for designation on the National Register of Historic Places. One of those places is the Victorian village of Voorheesville.

The Guilderland Town Board on Tuesday dealt with extending timelines for two proposals, accepted an amended application for another, and approved the withdrawal of a fourth. 

The tax rates for the 2023-24 school year adopted by the school board on Aug. 15 turned out to be based on an error, said Assistant Superintendent for Business Andrew Van Alstyne on Aug. 17. The board will adopt new tax rates next week, he said.

Opening day, Tuesday, saw the tri-county fair buzzing with early visitors despite the rainy weather. The Altamont Fair runs though Sunday.

ALBANY COUNTY — The second annual Fall Festival and 5K on the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The approved expenditure puts to rest a lawsuit filed in November 2020 by Terry Markham against Albany County, its district attorney’s office, and Zahraa Majeed, who was employed by the office at the time of her rear-end collision with Markham.

GUILDERLAND — A jewelry store featuring bracelets engraved with sayings, is opening at Crossgates Mall in Guilderland.

The Inspiration Co. is located near Best Buy on the upper level of the mall.
