The Guilderland Planning Board on Aug. 10 approved a site plan for the United Group of Troy for 192 apartments and 30 townhomes, where the largest change compared to an early proposal from the Pyramid Companies is the shift of two five-story buildings approximately 300 feet to the north of Westmere Terrace and 150 feet from the neighborhood property line. 

Helderberg Lake Community Association President Tom McQuade told The Enterprise this week that, after the association had its tax-district proposal rejected by the Berne Town Board, it’s hoping to secure funding for dam repairs through the New York State Environmental Bond Act, which will be voted on by state residents in November.

Representatives for Ron Kay were before the New Scotland Planning Board recently seeking approval for modifications to an existing site plan for the Grove at Maple Point development on Route 85A. 

In June 2021, Richard Long proposed and then tabled the 72 apartments for his property at 2080 New Scotland Road. The new proposal calls for 52 condominiums. 

ALBANY COUNTY — Albany County has received $2,365,306 to improve emergency communication.
The money is part of a combined $100 million awarded to 57 counties and New York City from the Statewide Interoperable Communications Grant program. 

ALBANY COUNTY — The Albany County Soil and Water Conservation District has awarded over $145,000 to six municipalities under its 2022 Municipality Conservation Assistance Funding:
— The town of Rensselaerville received $17,100 for ditch lining and bank stabilization;

A new online process will allow New Yorkers with a driver’s license, learner’s permit, or non-driver’s identification card to choose “X” as a gender marker without visiting a Department of Motor Vehicles office.

The sea lions are trained and cared for by Sea Lion Splash, a Texas-based company. 

New York State is currently involved in a lawsuit filed by telecommunications companies and organizations who argue that a state law mandating low-cost internet services for certain consumers hurts business interests and, by extension, hinders the expansion of rural broadband infrastructure. 

This week, Albany County’s 126th of coping with the coronavirus, the governor’s office reported three virus-related deaths — one each on Aug. 4, 5, and 9 — in Albany County. This would bring Albany County’s COVID-19 death toll to 579 although, as of Tuesday, the county’s dashboard showed 578.

Assemblyman Chris Tague was joined by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Congressman Lee Zeldin at Stanton’s Feura Farm to speak out against what they viewed as the negative impact of reducing the farm-laborer overtime threshold from 60 hours to 40 hours. 

The tax rate for Guilderland residents will go up 4.84 percent rather than the 2.98 percent predicted last spring. This is because the taxable valuation in town decreased by nearly $80 million from the $4 billion estimated in April. So Guilderland residents will pay $18.20 per $1,000 of their property’s assessment.

“It seems like the world’s in chaos, the world’s at odds,” said Karol Harlow who organized a Day of Oneness in Berne on Sunday.

Andrew Gibson, of Westerlo, pleaded guilty to reckless homicide after killing Berne resident Lisa Sperry in a drunk driving accident, but he failed to show up to his sentencing in February this year, having been out on bail.
