Guilderland’s varsity team started the competitive cheer season with a victory. The four-time Section 2 champions competed on Sunday at the University at Albany for the annual UAlbany Showdown against nine other schools.

With the season winding down, each game is crucial for the Dutch girls’ varsity basketball team. On Friday night, the Dutch faced off at home against the Spartans of Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake on Senior Night. Graycen Dubin, who scored 11 points, is the Dutch’s lone senior.

The Voorheesville Blackbirds flew to victory, beating Ichabod Crane, 60 to 47, on Friday evening as they spread their wings in a Colonial Council matchup at Ichabod Crane in Valatie.

Battling the elements and the terrain of Gore Mountain Ski Bowl in North Creek on Saturday, the Guilderland Nordic Ski Team competed with 16 other teams.

The Guilderville boys looked to show their swimming abilities against Shenendehowa High School on Friday afternoon in hopes of qualifying for states. The team is made up of athletes from Guilderland and Voorheesville and competed at home, in the Voorheesville pool.

On Monday afternoon the Voorheesville Blackbirds bowling team traveled to Troy to take on Lansingburgh at Uncle Sam Lanes. The Blackbirds lost, 28 to 4 (3433 to 2229 total pins).

On Saturday morning, the Guilderland gymnasts took on Bethlehem, showing the judges their grace and flexibility as the Dutch performed on the balance beam, vault, floor, uneven bars. The Dutch fell in a very close meet, 157.2 to 149.7.

Track teams from Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Guilderland, and Voorheesville, traveled to Springfield College in Massachusetts on Sunday to take part in the third annual Ed Cepiel Springfield Invite against 25 other teams.

Playing to a packed gym, Berne-Knox-Westerlo’s basketball teams — both the boys and the girls — were champions at the annual Holiday Tournament they hosted this past weekend at the high school.

The Voorheesville boys’ volleyball team traveled to Columbia-Greene Community College on Saturday to compete in the Holiday Tournament hosted by Ichabod Crane. The Blackbirds finished fifth out of eight teams, after going 5-5.
