Staff Sergeant Ronald Swenson from East Berne has re-enlisted to continue service with the Headquarters and Support Company, 42nd Infantry Division of the New York Army National Guard.

Allison Relyea, a resident of Voorheesville and a physical-education teacher at Guilderland High School, was honored last month with the Secondary Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

New York’s attorney general, Barbara Underwood, has sued Target Corporation, Walmart Inc., and importer LaRose Industries, for allegedly committing thousands of violations of multiple New York laws governing the safety of children’s toys sold in the state.

ALBANY COUNTY — Cornell Cooperative Extension of Albany County has been awarded $211,940 for its Supporting Healthy Youth and Families Initiative.

The award is one of two in the first-ever Blue Fund grant cycle from BlueShield of Northeastern New York.

These local members of the New York Army National Guard have recently been promoted:

— Kenneth Allen from Delmar, assigned to the 1427th Transportation Company, received a promotion to the rank of staff sergeant;

Wyatt Andrew Grace of Delmar will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Clemson University ROTC joint commissioning ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

GUILDERLAND — Joan McGrath, a business teacher at Guilderland High School, was honored last month with a Market Maker Business Award from the School of Business at Ithaca College. The annual awards honor high school teachers and advisers who are committed to mentoring high school students in economics or finance.

On Sunday, the annual Victorian Stroll was put on by the Altamont Community Traditions that put everyone in the Christmas spirit by having vendors, games, children decorations, and even a visit from Santa.

Mrs. Claus held her annual teddy bear tea at the New Salem Fire Department on Sunday afternoon. Santa even made a surprise visit.

On Friday afternoon, the Guilderland Teacher's Assistants brought over their schools donation of toys and dropped them off at Georgianna Pennacchia's house for the kids where she works.

At Indian Ladder Farms on Saturday morning, Santa Claus decided to make a stop for breakfast and stop and see see some children that visited the store in New Scotland.

Last weekend the Guilderland Historical Society and Garden Club held their annual Greens Show at the Frederick-Mynderse House in Guilderland Center.
