New York State producers who had losses from natural disasters in 2017 or 2018 may be eligible for federal assistance through the Tree Assistance Program, Emergency Assistance for Livestock, the Honeybees and Farm-Raised Fish Program, or the Livestock Indemnity Program:

Two SUNY Polytechnic Institute professors have been selected to receive a total of $330,000 from two separate nanoscience- and nanoengineering-focused grants:

The one horse carriage rides made a comeback for the Holiday season at Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland that runs through Dec. 23 every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

RENSSELAERVILLE — The Clarke White Unit 589 of the American Legion Auxiliary in Rensselaerville has earned both State (Department) and National recognition for its efforts with the Finding the New York Faces project.

GUILDERLAND — Boy Scout Troop 50 is again hosting the Annual Scouting for Food Drive to benefit the Food Pantry at St. Madeleine Sophie.

VOORHEESVILLE — Stacey Curley and Erin Casey have joined the board of the Voorheesville Community and School Foundation.

Specialist Nicholas Lavada from Delmar has re-enlisted to continue service with the Company C, 2-108th Infantry of the New York State Army National Guard.

 

These local members of the New York Army National Guard have recently been promoted:

— Dylan Haugen from Slingerlands, assigned to the Division Signal Company, 42nd Infantry Division, received a promotion to the rank of private first class; and

BETHLEHEM — The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce is participating in this year’s Small Business Saturday, on Nov. 24.

As a Neighborhood Champion, the chamber will help businesses promote the activities they have planned for Small Business Saturday, an event created in 2010 by American Express.

GUILDERLAND — Local vendors will showcase their products and services at the Guilderland Public Library on Nov. 24, in an event run by the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce to mark Small Business Saturday.

On November 12, Chi Walthery’s art class at St. John's Lutheran Church in Altamont entered the Halloween Envelope Art contest put on by The Edward Gorey House. One student won an Honorable Mentioned and Walthery held a party.

ALBANY COUNTY — More than $372 million in assistance is available to help older adults and low- and middle-income New Yorkers heat their homes this winter. Local departments of social services began accepting applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program on Tuesday, November 13.
