WESTERLO — “High-school sweethearts” who never parted were finally separated only by the end that comes to all.

Bruce J. Shore, a retired major with the United States Marine Corps, a banker with Schenectady Trust (TrustCo), and a longtime resident of Colonie, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at Capital Living Nursing Home in Schenectady, surrounded by his children and devoted caregivers. He was 88.

RENSSELAERVILLE — If ever a man could be said to have discovered his own personal Shangri-La, Timothy Charles Miller might have been that man.

Dr. Miller died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Albany Medical Center after a stroke. He was 69.

ALTAMONT — Dean J. Michaels, a retired highway worker who loved riding his motorcycle, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at St. Peter’s Hospital. He was 60.

Mr. Michaels was born in Albany on Oct. 14, 1956, the son of the late Daniel and Sophie Michaels.

Paul Henderson McFate

Paul Henderson McFate was a Christian missionary who set up schools in Africa and also worked for 25 years at Camp Pinnacle in the Helderbergs. He was “welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven” on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, his family wrote in a tribute. Mr. McFate, known as Jamie to his family and Henderson to the community, was 82.

Shirley M. Pendergast

KNOX — “Up up and away” is an expression that must have had special resonance for Shirley Pendergast.  She never tired, her family says, of attending hot air balloon festivals. One of her sons, Ronald Rue, says that but for his own nervousness on her behalf,  she would have gone up in one.

SCHOHARIE — Kenneth H. Skinner came very close to being a centenarian. The calm and “even-tempered” disposition that his son Douglas describes his father possessing must have helped.

Alan P. Rudzinskas

EAST BERNE — Alan P. Rudzinskas, a construction worker who raced motorcycles, died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at home after a brief illness. His loving wife was by his side. He was 61.

KNOX — Alan Rudzinskas died peacefully at his Knox home on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017.

He is survived by his living wife, Dyan Rudzinskas.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Fredendall Funeral Home in Altamont from 2 to 4 p.m.

Stuart Allen Devenpeck

DUANESBURG — Stuart Allen Devenpeck, a lifelong resident of the area and proprietor of a local tavern, died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017. He was 45.

“He was very big-hearted,” said his wife, Joyce Fix-Devenpeck. “Very big-hearted and generous.”

Eileen G. Mulson

Eileen G. Mulson was a “good-hearted woman who loved her kids, loved her grandkids,” said her daughter, Kathryn Giebitz. A “city girl” who was born and raised in Albany, Mrs.

VOORHEESVILLE — Robert S. Andrews, a mild-mannered gentleman who loved to sing and play the piano, died on Jan. 9, 2017. He was 92.

“He was very kind, a gentleman,” said his wife, Marilyn Andrews.

Belva Boyden

BERNE — Belva Boyden, a lifelong Berne resident who was active in her community, died on New Year’s Day at Albany Medical Center. She was 81.

Katherine J. Schryver

WESTERLO — Katherine J. “Kit” Schryver, a teacher’s aid and mother who liked to garden and cook, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. She was 61.

EAST BERNE — Rose Marie Lamorella helped people who most needed it — she helped run programs that taught prisoners, drug addicts, and the homeless how to read. She did this by understanding their individual strengths and weaknesses.
