GUILDERLAND CENTER — A guitar and base set the rhythm Tuesday for a festive party at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home, as Dora Tunkel turned 104 and Edith Troutman got ready to celebrate her 102nd birthday this Friday.

ALTAMONT — A judge has granted a hearing to a former Altamont Police officer who claims he’s entitled to back pay and reinstatement, dismissing the village’s argument that the officer, Marc Dorsey, got the job fraudulently.



VOORHEESVILLE — On May 16 school district residents will be voting on a $20 million budget, two propositions, and electing one candidate out of two for a spot on the school board.

VOORHEESVILLE — For the third year in a row, the Voorheesville Public Library remains in the planning stage of a building expansion. The $880,880 budget proposed for next year does not incorporate any funding for major construction.





KNOX — The town board raised the ire of some Knox citizens last week when it considered holding public hearings on two proposed laws: one a moratorium on windmills, and the other an ordinance aimed at curbing noise from dirt bikes.





RENSSELAERVILLE — The highway superintendent, often criticized in Rensselaerville, is under fire again. The town’s attorney said G. Jon Chase broke state law by loading salt and sand from the town’s supply into a private citizen’s truck.





NEW SCOTLAND — Two applications for telecommunication towers are now being considered by the planning board.

BERNE — Thanks to a state aid figure that’s higher than it’s been in years, the increase in taxes for the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District’s proposed budget is lower than it’s been in years.
