Stewart’s constantly tries to evolve and match the needs of the communities it serves

To the Editor:

Stewart’s recently submitted plans, for a building addition, to the village of Altamont.  Upon this submission, the planning board rightfully requested that Stewart’s “knock the building down and start over” and we completely agree.

In order to achieve an architecturally pleasing building, Stewart’s entered into an agreement with Peter Baumann who owns the land behind the shop, for the sale of his property.  A review of the zoning found that in 2012 his property’s zoning had been changed, unbeknownst to him.

A new store will look similar to one recently constructed at the intersection of routes 146 and 20 in the town of Guilderland and fit into the aesthetic feel of newer buildings in the village.  In addition to being a more attractive building, a new store will have improved parking, enhanced vehicle circulation through the lot, and be an improved work environment for our partners — all benefits from our perspective.

Stewart’s is constantly trying to evolve and match the needs of the communities it serves.  As we’ve seen continued growth in this store, we’d like to make an investment in the community providing a superior shopping experience from the one we currently offer.

We look forward to working with the village board and planning board on bringing an improvement to Altamont and hope all residents will participate in the process and participate at the May 5 meeting at Village Hall starting at 7 p.m.
