ALTAMONT — The popular Italian restaurant Mio Vino at 186 Main Street in Altamont has been closed for quite a few weeks now, while owner Michael Giorgio regroups.

ALTAMONT — People of all ages are invited to attend Altamont Reformed Church’s Sunday School classes, beginning on Sept. 13 at 9:30 a.m.

Sarah Slack, an alumna of Guilderland High School, has been named a Math for America Master Teacher.

The program awards a four-year, $60,000 fellowship to math and science public school teachers. The designation allows her take and teach workshops as teachers share best practices.

The week before school opened, Guilderland district leaders got a behind-the-scenes look at the work completed over the summer in Phase One of a $17 million project.

Security was a priority for the school board, and all school lobbies now have a double-door entrance, more cameras, and computerized swipe-card systems instead of keys.

GUILDERLAND — The Guilderland YMCA offers swimming lessons for those six months old and older. The fall swimming program runs from Sept. 7 to Oct. 25.

Daskalakis was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, under Leandra’s Law, named for Leandra Rosado, an 11-year-old who was killed in 2009 when her friend’s mother flipped her car while driving drunk.

“If Joe was able, he would be doing this, and we just want to honor him,” said Stewart, who is part of a committee of friends of Merli’s organizing the event.
