ALTAMONT — At his home, surrounded by his wife and children, Owen L. Murray of Altamont died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019. A village trustee and volunteer firefighter for three-quarters of a century, Mr. Murray was, as his family put it, “an enthusiastic supporter of the village.” He was 90.

GUILDERLAND — Nancy L. Brittell who was, her family said, “profoundly proud of her 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren,” died peacefully Friday, Jan. 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. She was 76.

GUILDERLAND — Randall F. Hallenbeck, a Korean War veteran who worked as an accountant, died peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, surrounded by his loving family in Cumming, Georgia. He was 85.

Most defendants surrender on the day of sentencing, said Cecilia Walsh, spokeswoman for the Albany County District Attorney’s Office.

It was an unusual case, in which there was never any public description of what Tod Mell did almost a decade ago to endanger the welfare of his then fifth-grade student, a 10-year-old girl. But the terms of Mell’s probation include sex-offender conditions.
