Registration is now open for Adult Practical Nursing Programs that start in September at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School Albany campus.

Sylvester Schiltz is celebrating his 90th birthday on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Altamont Village Hall at 1:30 p.m.

The Miss Altamont Fair Pageant kicks off the Altamont Fair on Tuesday morning inside the Village and Carriage Museum with 29 competitors in seven different age groups. The contestants displayed their talents, answered questions, and modeled formal wear for three judges.

Hiawatha Trails Executive Golf Course

Seven residents of Presidential Estates have sued the town’s zoning board of appeals, saying that the approval of the Hiawatha Trails senior independent-living project means they will suffer the “direct harm” of increased wait times to be able to get onto the only road out of their development, State Farm Road. 

ALTAMONT — For Holly VanWie of Clarksville, who is about to be a senior at Bethlehem Central High School, the week of the Altamont Fair is her favorite week of the year. “No one else does agriculture in my school,” she said at the 4-H poultry show on Tuesday, the opening day of the 2019 Altamont Fair.

Roger F. Ehlert was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, who will be greatly missed, his family said.

He died on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019, at Albany Medical Center, with his family by his side, following an eight-month battle against lung cancer. He was 75.

GUILDERLAND — The Westmere Fire Department Ladies will hold their 6th Annual Vendor and Craft Fair on Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the firehouse at 1741 Western Ave. in Guilderland.

GUILDERLAND — The New York State Police are looking for a Guilderland man suspected of fraudulent banking activities throughout the Capital Region.

GUILDERLAND — A jury has found Aric Lemon guilty of driving drunk and speeding on Interstate 87 in Guilderland.

Lemon, 40, of Watervliet, was found guilty of driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent of alcohol or more, both misdemeanors, and of a speeding violation.

GUILDERLAND — Two Guilderland Police officers suffered minor injuries Saturday night when they tried to break up a fight at Crossgates Mall and the crowd became unruly, according to a release from the police; both refused medical attention.
